Coelichneumon mohrii Uchida, 1956 View in CoL

Coelichneumon mohrii Uchida, 1956: 58 View in CoL , ♀.

Holotype: ♀ “Omogokei Iyo 17 X.1952 T. Mohri” (Sapporo), type studied.

Description: ♀: Body length 13 mm. Flagellum lanceolate, with 34 flagellomeres; 1 st flagellomere (without anellus) 2.3× longer than wide, 2 nd flagellomere 2.6× longer than wide and 1.1× longer than 1 st flagellomere, combined length c. 0.57× eye length; 11 th flagellomeres square; flagellomeres beyond middle attenuated, widest flagellomeres 1.8× wider than long. Temple moderately and roundly narrowed behind eye. OED 1.2× ocellar diameter. Frons with scattered and very superficial punctures. Face densely punctate medially and with scattered punctures laterally. Clypeus with rather dense punctures, shining. MI 0.65. Mandible with two teeth, lower tooth small. Gena 1.0× as wide as eye, with fine scattered and superficial punctures ventrally. Genal carina reaching hypostomal carina away from the mandibular base, both carinae low.

Mesoscutum covered with brownish hairs. Pronotum with fine punctures dorsally and longitudinal striation ventrally. Notaulus weakly impressed and short. Mesoscutum densely punctate, ± opaque; mesopleuron and metapleuron with dense punctures; juxtacoxal carina strong. Scutellum slightly convex, about as long as wide, without lateral carina, with coarse punctures. Propodeum rounded. Area basalis smooth, withut median tubercle and not bulging forward. Area superomedia hexagonal, about as long as wide, frontal and apical carinae weak; anterior transversal carina shortly behind its middle. Area externa smooth, with very superficial punctures; area petiolaris coarsely punctate, without distinct lateral carina. Hind coxa densely punctate, without scopa. Hind femur 3.6× longer than wide, densely punctate. 3 rd mid tarsomere 1.6× longer than wide.

Areolet quadrangular, veins 2rs-m and 3rs-m meeting frontally; vein 2m-cu in its middle. Vein 1cu-a postfurcal by 2× its width.

Metasoma strongly oxypygous. Postpetiolus without dorsal carina. Lateral field of postpetiolus punctate, 0.75× as wide as median field, the latter with superficial punctures and weak longitudinal striae. Gastrocelus strongly impressed, with coarse ridges. Thyridium slightly oblique, 0.8× as wide as the interval. 2 nd tergite length c.0.95× width; 2 nd and 3 rd tergites densely punctate, rugose-striate medially. 7 th tergite 2.0× wider than long. Seen from dorsal, ovipositor sheath 1.0× as long as 7 th tergite.

Color: Black. Mandible reddish centrally. Stripes on flagellomeres 9‒11 ivory. Narrow frontal orbit and spot on verte× yellowish. Mesosoma completely black. Metasoma black; 2 nd and 3 rd tergites with narrow reddish apical margins; 6 th tergite with ivory apical margin, 7 th tergite with ivory apical band. Legs black, fore femur apically and fore tibia frontally yellowish. Wings slightly infuscate, pterostigma brown.

♂ unknown.

Remarks: The median ivory spot on 7 th tergite represents an unique metasomal color pattern within the genus Coelichneumon and resembles the coloration of many Ichneumon species. The structure of propodeum is typical for Coelichneumon , and this taxon is therefore correctly placed here.

Distribution: Japan (Shikoku). Iwata (1958) recorded this species from Fukuoka Pref., Kyushu, while we found no voucher specimen.
