Holotype: ♂ “[Maruyama] 21.6/1929; Japan Uchida; [red] Type Matsumura; Coe. falsificus var. scutellaris ” ( Sapporo ), type studied. Due to the handwritten date on one label, this specimen might not be the holotype.
Non-type: JAPAN: 1 ♂, Tottori Pref., Wakasa Town, Mt. Hyonosen, Odanganaru , 35.20°N 134.31°E, 24.viii.2011, K. Abe leg., LT GoogleMaps .
Description: ♂: Body length 19‒20 mm. Antenna with 42 flagellomeres, 1 st flagellomere 2.1× longer than wide. Tyloids on flagellomeres 7‒17/19, long-oval to linear, centrally situated, 0.4× as long as the flagellomeres. Temple distinctly and almost linearly narrowed behind eye. OED 1.1‒1.2× and OOD 0.9× ocellar diameter. Frons coarsely but superficially rugose-punctate. Face densely punctate and granulate. Clypeus rather densely punctate. Gena laterally 1.0× as wide as eye. MI 0.4.
Mesosoma covered with grey or pale brownish hairs. Notaulus distinctly impressed in frontal 1/3 of mesoscutum. Mesoscutum with dense but superficial punctures, granulate, ± opaque. Mesopleuron and metapleuron with dense punctures; juxtacoxal carina present. Scutellum moderately elevated, about as long as wide, with lateral carina in basal 0.3 and dense punctures. Propodeum rounded. Area superomedia elevated, sickle-shaped, 1.8‒2.0× wider than long, finely rugose-punctate; anterior transversal carina caudal to its middle. Area petiolaris rugose-punctate, with lateral carina. Fore metatarsus without apical tooth. Hind femur 4.0× longer than wide.
Areolet pentagonal, frontal distance between veins 2rs-m and 3rs-m 1‒2× their width; vein 2m-cu distad its middle. Vein 1cu-a postfurcal by 1‒2× its width.
Lateral field of postpetiolus 0.4× as wide as median field, punctate; median field elevated, aciculate. Gastrocoelus strongly impressed. Thyridium oblique, 1.2× wider than the interval, the interval narrower than the median field of postpetiolus. 2 nd tergite 1.05× wider than long. 2 nd to 4 th tergites densely punctate and granulate; 2 nd and 3 rd tergites entirely striate medially, 4 th tergite only basally.
Color: Black. Palps, mandible except teeth, side of clypeus, wide facial and narrow frontal orbits, spot on vertex, short stripe on outer orbit, sometimes scape ventrally, spot on collare, hind edge or upper margin of pronotum, spot on tegula and subtegular ridge and sometimes small spot on mesopleuron yellowish. Apical half of scutellum and apical spot on median field of postpetiolus diffusely reddish (in HT) or black (in specimen from Mt. Hyonosen). Legs brown; fore and mid femora, tibiae and tarsi yellowish frontally; hind trochantellus, hind femur basally, basal 2/3 of hind tibia and hind tarsomeres ± reddish-yellow. Wings ± infuscate; pterostigma chestnut-brown or dark brown.
