Description. Body length, 2.4-3.9 mm. Wing length, 3.0 mm. Head ( Figs. 5–6 View FIGURES 5 – 7 ). Yellow to dark yellow, wider than thorax, broader than long dorsally, as long as high in profile; shiny light brown ocellar triangle almost reaching frons apex, narrow, with a longitudinal narrow, darkened groove; occiput dark, bare; gena yellow, height less than half length of first flagellomere, ventral margin slightly rounded, becoming higher posteriorly; postgena short; parafacialia not visible in profile; eyes bare, large, rounded; facial carina thin, incomplete; clypeus dark; labella reduced, yellow; palpus cylindrical, yellow; pedicel short; first flagellomere rounded, yellow to brownish, no sensorial pit; arista thin, dark, with short and spaced hairs; second aristomere slightly shortened. Chaetotaxy: 8 short orbitals; 7 interfrontals outside ocellar triangle; inner and outer verticals well developed; ocellars proclinate, divergent; postocellars parallel, slightly proclinate; vibrissa thin; gena with few pale hairs. Thorax ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 5 – 7 ). Scutum length/width ratio 1.33, yellow to dark yellow, with five reddish brown stripes, a small lateral brown spot more or less distinguishable, subshiny, flattened dorsally, dark pilosity inserted on rounded punctures; postpronotum with a brown spot, and 1 postpronotal developed seta; scutellum yellow, rounded apically, not flattened, with regular apical seta; pleura shiny, with a dark spot on anepisternum, another on katepisternum, one on anepimeron, and one ventrally to first spiracle; 1+2 notopleurals; 1 pair of dorsocentrals, postalar and intrapostalar setae well developed; halter dark yellow or light brown. Legs. Yellow; fore femur with 1 to 2 long hairs laterally; tibial organ short, narrow, concolorous with leg. Wing ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 5 – 7 ). Membrane hyaline; costal sectors 1- 2-3-4: 30- 33 -23-6; R4+5 slightly convex; R4+5 and M1+2 divergent; distance between r-m and dm-cu 4 times r-m length; transversal veins placed on basal half of wing. Abdomen. Five dark yellow tergites fully sclerotized. Male terminalia ( Figs. 8–9 View FIGURES 8 – 9 ). Epandrium large, dark brown, rounded; proctiger sclerotized, well delimited, with 2 setae; mesolobus (fused cerci) long, narrow, rectangular-shaped; bacilliform sclerite line-shaped, placed under mesolobus; surstylus forceps-shaped, with microtrichiae at base, prolonged arm attached to epandrium laterally to mesolobus, directed basally, a beak at tip; hypandrium with two basal, rounded projections, arms long, apex with external and internal projections moderate; gonites fused, long, narrow, with 2 pairs of setae and sensorial pores; basiphallus oval; distiphallus short; phallapodeme short, bifid at posterior half; presence of an additional sclerite dorsally to basiphallus, the epiphallus, longer than basiphallus, thin, weakly sclerotized. Female terminalia. Cercus short, yellow.
Comments. The color of the ocellar triangle may vary between specimens of this species from yellow to brown. All three species of Coroichlorops share a lateral orange to brown spot at the scutum. C. plaumanni is externally similar to C. yungas , but the male terminalia have relevant differences. Two females from the states of Minas Gerais and Santa Catarina found in collections may belong to a separate species close to C. yungas and C. plaumanni . No males have been found, however, that could be associated to these females. Since the male genitalia is particularly key for diagnostic features in the genus, we preferred to postpone the description of the species until conspecific males come to be known.
Etymology. This species is named after Fritz Plaumann, the famous German insect collector that worked in southern Brazil and who collected most specimens of the type series of this species.
