Notogaster with porose areas, saccules absent. Adanal lyrifissures located close and lateral to anal aperture. Other morphological traits correspond to generic diagnosis.

Statement of monophyly: Non-monophyletic—see Note 4.4 in Taxonomic notes section

Distribution: Cosmopolitan (except Antarctic region)

Known species: 183 species—see Note 5.4 in Taxonomic notes section

5. Personal addition from Roy A. Norton: Fujikawa (1991) listed the source of the synonymy as Baker & Wharton 1952. This may have been the first specific statement, but certainly the idea preceded 1952. Synonymy was implied by the inclusion of Zetes elimatus in Galumna by both Sellnick (1929) and Willmann (1931). Grandjean (1936, p 105) also implied it in a footnote.
