Oelschlaegera Bhatti View in CoL
Oelschlaegera Bhatti 1990: 198 View in CoL .
Bhatti (1990) designated Chirothrips madagassus View in CoL zur Strassen (1961) as the type species of Oelschlaegera View in CoL , and distinguished the genus from Chirothrips View in CoL and all related genera by “presence of a broad, continuous posteromarginal flange on abdominal terga as well as sterna, and by the chaetotaxy of abdominal sterna, each with only 2 pairs of setae along the posterior margin”. The concept of Oelschlaegera View in CoL was revised by Nakahara & Foottit (2012), who also transferred to Oelschlaegera View in CoL from Chirothrips View in CoL two other species C. priesneri View in CoL and C. ruthae View in CoL . They indicated that the above three species are unusual within the group in having stout conical setae on the head and mesonotum, but unfortunately no illustrations were provided. The type species, madagassus View in CoL , was described from Madagascar, and ruthae View in CoL from Democratic Republic of Congo. In contrast, priesneri View in CoL was described from Sao Paulo in Brazil, although Mound & Marullo (1996) suggested that, like so many Chirothrips View in CoL group species, priesneri View in CoL may have been dispersed artificially, and have come originally from Africa.
