Cariborchestia xerophila View in CoL .— Smith & Wier, 1999: 639, table 1 (ecology).

Types. Holotype, female, 6 mm, MCZ . Paratypes: male, 6.5 mm, MCZ ; 2 females (ovigerous), 3 males, MCZ .

Type locality. A shallow dry sea level playa at the base of the cliffs at Punta Arenas, Playa de Sardinera (0.13 km inland of beach), Isla Mona, Puerto Rican Archipelago, Caribbean Sea (18°04’56’’N 67°56’17’’E) GoogleMaps .

Ecological type. Field-hopper.

Habitat. Living 1.3 km inland of beach, just above sea level.

Size. Male, 5–6.5 mm, female, 5–6 mm (ovigerous).

Diagnosis (male).

With the characters of the genus.

Remarks. This species occupies a similar habitat to that of species of Orchestia in the Mediterranean Sea, which move off the beach into terrestrial habitats.

Distribution. Caribbean Sea. Isla Mona, Puerto Rican archipelago ( Smith 1998).
