Distribution. China ( Hongkong, Hainan, Guangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Yunnan), Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia.

Remarks. In appearance, this species resembles S. rufescens Diakonoff, 1973 , but it can be separated from the latter by the character of male genitalia. Compared with S. rufescens , this species possesses a less dilated sacculus, a less projecting base of cucullus that is about 1.5 times as wide as the median part, and a relatively robust phallus that is about as broad as the median part of cucullus. In S. rufescens the sacculus is distinctly dilated, the cucullus has a strongly projecting base that is about 2 times as wide as the median part of cucullus, and the phallus is less than 0.7 times as wide as the median part of cucullus. Sycacantha inopinata is also similar to S. formosa Diakonoff, 1971 in the male genitalia, but it differs from the latter in the dome-shaped uncus, and the socius with the outer part rounded apically and about 2 times as wide as the inner part; while in S. formosa the uncus is reduced, and the outer part of socius is angulate apically and approximately as wide as the inner part.
