Type Material. Holotype female housed at ZMHB with following label data and mouthparts mounted beneath specimen: a) "f" (typeface), b) " N. Borneo KinaBaluGeb. Waterstradt S." (typeface), c) "87731" (typeface), d) " malayensis Arrow " (handwritten), e) our holotype label. Type Locality: Sabah (Kinabalu) . Paratype female housed at BMNH with following label data: a) “ Kina Balu, N. Borneo, 1912 278” (typeface), b) “ Kina Balu ” (handwritten), c) our paratype label .

Description. Holotype female. Length 13.7 mm. Widest width 7.5 mm. Color: Head, pronotum, scutellum, propygidium, pygidium, and venter black; elytra black with iridescent bloom. Head: Surface of frons with base sparsely punctate, disc moderately densely punctate; punctures simple and ocellate, lacking setae. Surface of clypeus moderately densely punctate; punctures simple or ocellate, sparsely unisetigerous laterally; setae short. Clypeus laterally weakly bowed, apex truncate, corners square, beaded; bead weakly arcuate posteriorly. Labrum deeply, narrowly emarginate at middle. Mandible with external edge rounded, inner apex with 2 teeth. Mentum with apical half rounded ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 19–28 ), notched at middle; palpomere 2 dorsoventrally flattened, about 2.5 times width of palpomere 1, setose; setae dense, moderately long, rufous, weakly thickened, not curled at apex. Maxilla: mala with moderately dense lamellate setal brush; stipes with setae moderately dense, long, flattened at apex, not curled at apex; palpomere 2 lacking internomedial bump. Antennal club subequal to segments 2–7. Pronotum: Bead lacking anterior to scutellum. Surface moderately densely punctate; punctures simple and ocellate, lacking setae. Lateral margin lacking long setae. Elytral sutural length: About 4.3 times length of scutellum. Elytra: Surface with 5 poorly developed, punctate, longitudinal striae between suture and humerus; punctures simple and ocellate, moderate in size, moderately dense, lacking setae. Intervals similarly sculptured. Epipleuron in ventral view not expanded, not incised at apex; in dorsal view not expanded ( Fig. 58 View FIGURES 56–60 ). Propygidium: Surface shagreened and moderately densely punctate (disc) to densely punctate (laterally); punctures simple and ocellate, lacking setae. Pygidium: Surface moderately densely punctate; punctures ocellate, lacking setae. Venter: Prosternal keel elongate; apex projecting anteriorly at about 90° with respect to ventral plane, produced to about 1/2 of protrochanter, apical tip broken. Legs: Foreclaws 1/2 length of foretarsomere 5, claws angled toward venter. Meso and metatibial claws with 2 setae; claws angled toward venter, about 1/2 length of metatarsomere 5.

Paratype (1 female). Length 14.4 mm. Widest width 8.4 mm. Does not vary appreciably from the female holotype.

Diagnosis. This species is known only from two female specimens. The species is separated from its congeners by the following characteristics: mandible with external edge rounded; mentum with apical half rounded ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 19–28 ), palpomere 2 dorsoventrally flattened, about 2.5 times width of palpomere 1 with long, rufous, weakly thickened setae (setae not curled at apex); maxilla with moderately dense lamellate setal brush on mala and with moderately dense, long, flattened setae on stipes (setae not curled at apex); and epipleuron in ventral view not expanded, not incised at apex ( Fig. 58 View FIGURES 56–60 ).

Etymology. The specific epithet, “ nethis ” is derived from the Greek word for “spinster” and refers to the fact that the species is known only from female specimens.
