Type species: Phormosoma asterias A. Agassiz, 1881 , by original designation.

Remarks. The family Kamptosomatidae is limited to a single species, the validity of a second species Kamptosoma abyssale Mironov 1971 being somewhat uncertain (Mooi et al. 2004).
