Eleodes papillosus Blaisdell, 1917
( Figs. 15–16 View Figs ; Map 5 View Maps 1–5 )
Eleodes (Litheleodes) granulata forma tuberculata Blaisdell 1909: 131.
Eleodes papillosa Blaisdell 1917: 226 (nomen novum)
Diagnosis. Pronotum coarsely, densely punctured. Pronotal punctures coalescent so that interstitial surfaces raised laterally, granulate to tuberculate. Lateral pronotal margins in dorsal view strongly arcuate but constricted at base. Elytra dull with rounded tubercles of several sizes. Prosternal process obsolescent. Profemoral teeth in most males well-developed as in E. extricatus , sometimes reduced to an angulation. Ental protibial spur of female twice size of ectal. Probasitarsomere with pencil of dark setae at apex of plantar groove in males, obsolete in females.
The coarsely and densely punctured pronotum and dull elytra with rounded tubercles of varied sizes will readily separate this species from its congeners.
Measurements. Males: length 14.8–17.7 mm; width 6.0–8.0 mm. Females: length: 16.2–18.5 mm; width 7.4–7.8 mm.
Types. Holotype, female ( CASC No. 2834) and allotype, male ( CASC No. 2835): Siskiyou County, California, July.
Material Examined. Besides the types, we have seen only 12 specimens (11 in AMNH, from the collection of Joe Schuh) from Macdoel , Siskiyou County, CA, collected from 1966 to 1971 in May and June. Two of them were taken in a potato field. One specimen identified by Blaisdell as E. papillosa f. tuberculata, from Sather Station , Alameda Co , CA, is in the FSCA. One specimen ( UCDC), probably a female, from Cave Creek R.S., Trinity County, CA, VII-15-1955, D. L. Dahlston, is possibly mislabeled .
Distribution. Known only from Siskiyou, Alameda, and Trinity Counties, California ( Map 5 View Maps 1–5 ).
