Herb, erect, 40–80 cm high; young branches terete, brown pubescent. Leaves simple. Stipules narrowly linear, ca. 1 mm long, caducous. Petioles 0.5–2 mm long. Lamina oblong, obovate or oblanceolate, 1.1–5.2 × 0.3–2.2 cm, base obtuse, apex acute or rounded, margin entire, white puberulous upper, brown pubescent lower; lateral veins inconspicuous. Inflorescences terminal, rarely axillary, open racemes, 4–11 cm long; peduncle 7–8 mm long, brown pubescent. Bracts narrowly linear, 2–3 mm long, persistent. Pedicels 1–2 mm long, brown pubescent. Bracteoles inserted on the calyx tube, narrowly linear, 4–6 mm long, persistent. Calyx View in CoL 7–9 mm long, campanulate, bilabiate; tube 1–2 mm long; lobes triangular, 6–7 mm long, glabrous inside, brown pubescent outside. Corolla View in CoL yellow. Standard: claw 1–1.2 mm long, glabrous, margin white tomentose; blade obovate, 5–5.5 × 7–7.5 mm, base obtuse, apex emarginate, margin glabrous. Wings: claw 0.8–1 mm long, glabrous; blade elliptic, 5.8–6 × 2.5–3 mm, base oblique, apex obtuse, margin glabrous. Keel: claw ca. 0.5 mm long, glabrous; blade lanceolate, 8–8.5 × 4–4.5 mm, beak spirally twisted, base rounded, apex attenuate, margin white pubescent. Stamens: filaments fused for proximal 1.3–1.5 mm, free for distal 2–4 mm; anthers either narrowly linear, 1–1.3 mm long or oblong, ca. 0.1 mm long. Ovary sessile, oblong, 2–2.2 mm long, glabrous; style 9–10 mm long, adaxially white puberulous in a single line along the distal edge, abaxially glabrous. Pods sessile, elliptic, 3–4 × 2.8–3 mm, brown-black, glabrous. Seeds reniform, 2–2.8 × 1.5–2.2 mm, brown.

Notes: — Crotalaria montana is similar to C. albida , in leaf morphology and habit, but differs from that species in its shorter pedicels (1–2 mm vs 4–6 mm), longer bracteoles (4–6 mm vs 2–3 mm), its sessile ovary and elliptic pods.
