Distribution. Japan: Honshu, Shikoku, Kyûshû, Gotô-rettô, Yaku-shima; China: Shanghai (new provincial record), Zhejiang, Hainan.

Comments. Physomerinus pedator ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 B) is characterized by the male metafemora possessing a large cavity in which a basally pedunculate and apically expanded projection is situated. The populations from Shanghai and Japan are externally similar ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B–C; Nomura 1991: fig. 133A, 133D), and their aedeagi exhibit only slight variation ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 H–I; Nomura 1991: fig. 134A–B). All individuals from Shanghai were collected under weeds or in decaying woods at a mud bank along a river in April ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 A, 4C).
