Type material. HOLOTYPE male, labeled: MEXICO, San Luis Potosi, San Antonio, cerca del Puente, 23-Apr- 2007, Malaise trap, Paz Rodríguez, R. & Pérez Rentería, C. cols. Specimen dissected and mounted on microscopic slide, deposited in CAIM.
Diagnosis. Tergite 7 with sub-basal constrictions, laterally produced in a pair of short projections, posterior margin with paired lateral pointed projections; paramere bearing a comb of dense setae at apex; tergite 9 V-shaped.
Description. Male. Head brown. Eyes with interommatidial spicules; antenna with 8 flagellomeres ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 B) pale brown; first flagellomere subquadrangular, flagellomeres 2 to 7 broader than long, distal flagellomere clubshaped; flagellum length, 0.60 mm; palpus ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 B) light brown, cylindrical, apically rounded sensory pit, length, 0.07 mm; labella light brown, short and rounded. Thorax brownish; scutum covered with short setae; anterior spiracular sclerite with 27–29 setae; anepisternum and anepimeron with scattered setae; no katepisternals setae. Legs brownish; femora and tibiae uniformly brown, except hind tibiae with basal and medial pale rings; all tarsi pale brown. Wing ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B) length, 1.5 mm, width, 0.71 mm; membrane densely micropilose on whole surface. Anterior veins R1, Rs and R4+5 broadened and thickened, with irregularly arranged rows of short setae on dorsal surface; costal cell narrow; C 0.67 of total wing length; r-m very short; fork of M symmetrical; M1 and M2 complete; false vein faint; CuA1 ends at level of apex of C; CuA2 markedly sigmoid. Halter pale brown, with five setae on stem. Abdomen: sternite 7 (Fig. 4D) with shallow posterior emargination, length, 0.48 mm, width, 0.31 mm; tergite 7 (Fig. 4C) with sub-basal constrictions, laterally produced into a pair of short projections, posterior margin with paired lateral pointed projections, length, 0.19 mm, width, 0.35 mm. Genital capsule massive ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 B); gonocoxite short and robust, with pointed apex, length, 0.1 mm, width, 0.06 mm; paramere (6B) bearing a comb of dense setae; penis elongate, sinuous sub-apically, length, 0.12 mm; tergite 9 ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 B) V-shaped, apex with short and strong tooth-shaped projection, length, 0.11 mm, width at base, 0.18 mm.
Female. Unknown.
Discussion. This new species is similar to C. marlettae and C. lupitae , but differs by the shape of tergite 7 with subbasal constriction and regularly emarginated posterior margin ( C. lupitae has also tergite 7 with basal constriction, but its posterior margin asymmetrical). They differ in the shape of tergite 9, which is triangular apically in C. marielae (rounded apically in C. marlettae ). In addition, the setae of the paramere, shape of the palpus and sternite 7 differ in these closely related species. Other known species of the Neotropical and Nearctic region have no subbasal constriction of tergite 7.
Distribution. Mexico (San Luis Potosi).
Ecology. The single specimen was collected using Malaise trap, in a tropical dry forest, at the elevation of 200 m.
Etymology. This new species is named after my wife, Mariela Trujillo De la Cruz, for her unconditional support, love and enthusiasm for my projects.
