Verodes inaequalis (Say, 1835)
This species is endemic to Mexico and has the widest distribution of all species of the genus. It is known from Ciudad de México and the states of Durango, Estado de México, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla, Sinaloa, Sonora, and Veracruz, occurring at elevations from 2,000 to 4,000 m. It is more commonly found in pine, oak, and pine-oak forests between 2,400 and 2,700 m ( Champion 1884, 1892; Foley and Ivie 2008; Baselga et al. 2011). We add the following distributional data: “ MEXICO: Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Sierra de Santa Rosa, Ca~ nada de la Virgen, 6-VII-1995, J. Cano, M. Cano cols.” (7 ♂♂, 4 ♀♀, IEXA); idem except: “Ca~ nada de Guadalupe, 29- VIII-1995, 2,550 m, Encinar, R. Cano, L. Delgado cols” (1 ♀, IEXA); idem except: “Puerto de Barrientos, 30-VII-1995, 2,650 m, Encinar, L. Delgado col” (1 ♀, IEXA); “ MEXICO: Hidalgo, Mineral del Chico, 14-VIII-2015, 2,500 m, A. Delgado, L. Delgado cols” (1 ♂, IEXA); “ MEXICO: Jalisco, Talpa, II-1990 ” (1 ♂, IEXA); “ MEXICO: Puebla; Coaxtlán, Crucero a Chichiltepec, 19-VI-2017, 2,440 m, Bosque de pino-encino seco, troncos, 18° 16 ′ 5.5 ′′ N, 97° 5 ′ 28.8 ′′ W, K. Cortés, L. Delgado cols” (1 ♂, IEXA); “ MEXICO: Veracruz, Las Vigas, Reserva San Juan del Monte; 13-VI- 1999, Bosque de pino, corteza, J. Bueno col.” (1 ♂, 1 ♀, IEXA).
Verodes interruptus ( Champion, 1884) This species and its synonym, Nosoderma insigne Champion , are cited from Las Vigas in Veracruz and Capulalpam (Calpulalpan according to Selander and Vaurie (1962), but Capulalpam de Méndez is the correct name) in Oaxaca ( Champion 1884). The locality of Las Vigas needs confirmation due to a labeling mistake by the collector Höge, as many of his specimens from Veracruz and Oaxaca are mislabeled ( Delgado et al. 2012). Foley and Ivie (2008), and Baselga et al. (2011) record this species from Oaxaca at elevations between 2,000 and 3,200 m.
