Type specimens examined: Lectotype male, “ Guam ”, “Kinb.”, “ Nysius pulchellus sp. n. C. Stål 1859 ”, 4 th segment of antennae missing, carded, dissected genitalia in vial ; Paralectotype female, location same as lectotype, dissected, spermatheca mounted under cover slip on a resin card attached to same pin as specimen, specimen in parts glued on card, distal 2 segments of antennae and some legs missing; both specimens in Swedish Museum of Natural History , Stockholm .

Description: Measurements are of the lectotype male of N. pulchellus , followed by those of the paralectotype female within round brackets.

Body length 3.60 (4.20); maximum width 1.10 (1.30).

Coloration: Areas of head, pronotum, and scutellum mainly black. Femora ochraceous, faintly spotted with fuscous. Pronotum with posterior lateral margins and a large discoidal spot yellow; base of head with a small median yellow spot and adjoining spot on anterior margin of pronotum also yellow. Width of anterior margin equal to median length. Membrane with longitudinal fuscous patches. Corium with a submarginal fuscous line (streak) along outer margin. Median area of clavus and adjoining inner margin of corium broadly fuscous continuing on to membrane along middle of body.

Structure: Anterior costal margins of corium sparsely pilose. Length of head 0.76 (0.76); width across eyes 1.02 (1.01); interocular space 0.49 (0.52); interocellar space 0.30 (0.28); eye-ocellar space 0.11 (0.10); eye length 0.34 (0.34); eye width 0.26 (0.24). Bucculae narrowly elevated, gradually tapering posteriorly, tapering and ending well before base of head, shorter than first labial segment. Labium extending to hind coxae; length of segments: I 0.49 (0.55); II 0.50 (0.50); III 0.43 (0.47); IV 0.39 (0.40). Antennae with 4 th segment about as long as 3 rd segment; length of segments: I 0.30 (0.34); II 0.76 (0.78); III 0.64 (missing); IV missing (0.76).

Thorax: Pronotum very coarsely punctae with a central impression, median length 0.76 (0.85); width at anterior margin 0.68 (0.75); width at posterior margin 1.21 (1.31).

Scutellum length 0.64 (0.70); width 0.72 (0.75). Length of hemelytra 2.24 (damaged); length of corium 1.60 (damaged); claval commissure 0.30 (missing).

Abdomen: Scent gland scars and ventral trichobothria on sterna III and IV as in N. vinitor .

Male: Paramere with blade slightly more curved and basal shank more produced than in N. vinitor . Aedeagus as in N. vinitor .

Female: Spermatheca as in Fig. 16 View FIGURES 16–19 , other details of genitalia as in N. vinitor .

Distribution. Various islands in the Micronesia Group (North and South Mariana Islands, Caroline Atolls, Truk, Kusaie, Marcus and Marshall Islands).

Diagnosis. N. pulchellus generally resembles N. vinitor , but differs from it in having sparser and larger punctures on head, pronotum, and scutellum; anterior costal margins of corium sparsely pilose; and median area of clavus and adjoining inner margin of corium broadly fuscous continuing onto membrane along midline.
