Diagnosis. This species is most similar to P. krali . Both of them are distinguishable among the subgenus by the combination of following characters: elytra with transverse microsculpture ( Fig. 45 View FIGURES 35–47. 35–43 ); parascutellar pore present; interval 3 with three setigerous pores; metatarsus slender, similar in both sexes ( Figs 39–40 View FIGURES 35–47. 35–43 ). These two species are different in the following aspects: (1) in P. mulensis , elytral microsculpture is stronger, transverse-isodiametric, length of each mesh usually 2–3 times as width ( Fig. 45 View FIGURES 35–47. 35–43 ), while shallower in P. krali , transverse-linear with length of each mesh usually more than 4 times as width ( Fig. 47 View FIGURES 35–47. 35–43 ); (2) elytra humeral tooth is smaller in P. mulensis ; (3) in P. mulensis , the right parame re of male genitali a is less curved with the maximum curvature in the apical fourth of apical portion ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 19–24 ), whereas in P. krali , the right paramere is strongly curved with the maximum curvature near middle of apical portion ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 19–24 )

Supplementary description. BL = 11.0– 11.8 mm, BW = 4.1–4.4 mm; eyes large, tempora slightly swollen behind eyes, shorter than eyes, eyL/tpL = 1.85–1.98, maxim width of head at outer margin of eyes, HW/PW = 0.54–0.58. Pronotum subquadrate, PW/PL = 1.18–1.25, PBW/PW = 0.86–0.90; anterior margin slightly narrower than posterior margin, PAW/PBW =0.85–0.88; lateral margins slightly curved near middle, faintly sinuate before posterior angles; posterior angles nearly rectangular, with faint denticle. Basal foveae with sporadic punctures or impunctate, inner and outer grooves well defined, partly fused at base, outer groove about half the length as the inner one. Elytra with transverse microsculpture, length of each mesh usually 2–3 times as width ( Fig. 45 View FIGURES 35–47. 35–43 ); parascutellar pore present, occasionally absent on one side; humerus with small tooth, slightly projected out; interval 3 with three setigerous pores, the first one placed near basal fourth to basal sixth, usually adjacent to stria 3, the other two adjacent to stria 2. Male sternite VII without secondary sexual modification; metatarsus slender, similar in both sexes (mt1 length/width = 3.1, Figs 39–40 View FIGURES 35–47. 35–43 ); metatarsomere 1 with outer-lateral ridge. Median lobe of aedeagus stout (length about 1.60 mm), apex strongly directed ventrally in lateral view; apical lamella short and wide, apex rounded, slightly twisted to right; right paramere falcate, gradually curved with the maximum curvature near apical fourth of apical portion ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 19–24 ), apex sharp. Endophallus extended to ventral side of aedeagus, gonopore opened to base of aedeagus; with spherical right apical lobe (ra) and left apical lobe (la), la much larger than ra, apex of ra strongly sclerotized; with distinct scales near gonopore ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 25–30 ).

Distribution. This species only known from the type locality in Muli County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan province. ( Fig. 54 View FIGURES 54–57. 54 , purple)
