( Fig. 47 View FIGURES 25 – 48. 25 )

Cosmosoma mathani Rothschild, 1911: 31 (preoccupied). Holotype female, by monotypy: COLOMBIA, Cundinamarca, La Palma, August 1902 (M. de Mathan); with six labels: "La Palma, Cundinamarca, Aug. 0 3. (Mathan)"; " Type "; "Rothschild Bequest B.M. 1939-1"; " Cosmosoma mathani Type Rothsch."; "Kb-Dia-Nr. 417 B. Kreusel dok."; and “BMNH(E) 1475632” (BMNH) [examined].

Cosmosoma exomelan Zerny, 1912a: 70 .

Current combination. Chrostosoma exomelan ( Zerny, 1912a) , comb. nov.

Condition of the type. Both antennae broken, the right proximally, the left medially. Wings slightly worn.

Remarks. Zerny (1912a) created this name as the objective replacement name for Cosmosoma mathani Rothschild, 1911 , a junior primary homonym of Cosmosoma mathani Rothschild, 1910 . This action was ignored by Hampson (1914, 1915), who also erroneously mentioned a male type for C. mathani Rothschild, 1911 . Draudt (1915) recognized the homonymy and adopted the name C. exomelan for C. mathani Rothschild, 1911 .

The new combination in Chrostosoma Hübner , [1819] of this species and others previously placed in Cosmosoma Hübner , [1823] is discussed in Pinheiro & Duarte (2013). Chrostosoma exomelan is here maintained in this genus merely because it is not possible at this moment to ascertain its taxonomic placement, which is almost certainly not in Chrostosoma . This species closely resembles one of the female phenotypes of Phoenicoprocta vacillans (Walker, 1856) .
