( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 1 – 24. 1 )

Episcepsis melanoneura Zerny, 1931b: 17 (Taf. 1, fig. 19 and 20). Lectotype hereby designated, male: [ BRAZIL], Jaraguá, Santa Catarina (Fr. Hoffmann), with three labels: printed label “Sta. Catharina, Jaraguá, Fr. Hoffmann ” with handwritten date on the underside “ 23.x. ’29” and handwritten label “ Episcepsis melanoneura Zerny male type ”. Six paralectotypes, two males and four females. Two males also from Jaraguá, but from a different date: 28.viii. [19]29. Four females from Jaraguá, with the same labels, except for the dates, which are as follows: “ 12.vi. ’28”; “ 27.v. ’29”; “ 24.viii. ’29” and “ 2.x. ’29”. Fifth female with four labels: three printed labels “27.2”, “Bahia”, and “Bras. Exped. Penther ’03”; and handwritten label “ Episcepsis melanoneura Zerny ♀ type ”.

Current combination. Episcepsis melanoneura Zerny, 1931 .

Condition of the types. Lectotype. Forewings somewhat rubbed. Paralectotypes. Male and female (12.vii. [19]28) from Santa Catarina in perfect condition; female from Bahia with the forewings worn, the right one broken at the tip, as are both antennae. Female from 27.v.29 with the tips of the antennae broken, the rest in good condition. Remaining females in good condition.

Remarks. This species was described from two males and five females. Both males and four of the females are from Jaraguá, state of Santa Catarina, south Brazil. The remaining female is from Bahia. Both the male and female were illustrated by Zerny (1931b), and we chose the male as the lectotype to allow comparison with other species, given that males are usually more common than females, as reflected in the majority of the types being males. The female from Bahia has the red head spots characteristic of the species, but they are smaller than the spots of the other specimens and are partly hidden by the pronotum.

As mentioned by Zerny (1931b), Episcepsis melanoneura is closely related to E. venata Butler, 1877 , the type species of the genus.
