Geographical distribution: Canada, United States of America, Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Belize, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, U. S. Virgin Islands, Honduras, St. Martin, St. Kitts & Nevis, Antigua & Barbuda, Guadeloupe, Dominica, St. Vincent & Grenadines, Barbados, Aruba, Colombia, Curaçao, Klein Curaçao, Bonaire, Grenada, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Trinidad & Tobago, Panama, Guyana, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Argentina. Introduced into the Hawaiian Islands.
Distribution in Brazil: all regions (AP, PA, AM, PE, MT, RO, BA, MG, SP, RJ, PR, SC, RS) ( White 1879b; Jaczewski 1928a, 1930; Neering 1954; Nieser & Melo 1997; Pelli & Barbosa 1998; Melo & Nieser 2004; Souza et al. 2006; Moreira et al. 2008).
