Halobates (Halobates) micans Eschscholtz, 1822 View in CoL
Geographical distribution: circumglobal.
Comments: A pelagic species rarely found in coastal waters; recorded from Brazilian waters ( Kirkaldy & Torre-Bueno 1909; Herring 1961; Cheng 1985; Andersen & Cheng 2004; Dias & Lopes 2009).
Rhagadotarsinae (1 genus, 10 species)
Rheumatobates Bergroth, 1892 (10 species)
Comments: Rheumatobates carvalhoi Drake & Harris, 1944 was described from southeastern Brazil (MG). According to Polhemus and Manzano (1992), R. carvalhoi is the only member of the aestuarius group of Rheumatobates to occur outside of the Eastern Tropical Pacific. Based on the ecology, taxonomy, and geographical distribution of the species of the group, those authors mentioned having serious doubts concerning the validity of the locality data of the type-series of R. carvalhoi . Being so, the Brazilian record of R. carvalhoi is not considered here.
