Nerthra nepaeformis ( Fabricius, 1775) View in CoL
Geographical distribution: Todd (1955) mentions that the species was recorded in literature from Mexico to Chile, and adds records from Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina. Todd (1957b) confirms the presence of the species in Chile, and Todd (1961) considers only his own records of the species, ignoring previous literature records. This decision was followed by subsequent authors treating the species, but seems to be mistaken, especially because N. nepaeformis was described from Antigua, Central America, as “ Antigua Insula” by Fabricius (1775).
Distribution in Brazil: North, Northeast, Southeast, and South regions (PA, AM, BA, MG, SP, RJ, SC) ( Stål 1860, 1868; Melin 1929; Todd 1955, 1972; Nieser 1977b; Schnack & Estévez 1979; Nieser & Chen 1992; Nieser & Melo 1997).
Comments: It was not possible to determine the place of collection of three specimens from “ Brasil: Sta. Cruz” cited by Nieser (1977b), one of which was caught by “ V. Alfers.”
