Gelastocoris amazonensis Melin, 1929 View in CoL
Geographical distribution: Brazil.
Distribution in Brazil: North and Central-West regions (AM, MS) ( Melin 1929; Nieser 1975; Schnack & Estévez 1979).
Comments: Todd (1957b) mentioned observing a specimen labeled “Rio Branco, Haseman.” In the beginning of the XX century, J. D. Haseman performed a long collection in the region of Branco and Negro rivers in northern Brazil, and the specimen observed by Todd might have been collected on RR or AM, states through which the Branco River flows. The record from MS is derived from Schnack & Estévez (1979) citation of “Rio Caraguatá, Brasil,” based on material collected by Fritz Plaumann. Those authors mistakenly associated the river with AM, but as explained above for some gerromorphan species, Rio Caraguatá is located on MS.
