Buenoa platycnemis ( Fieber, 1851) View in CoL
Geographical distribution: United States of America, Mexico, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, U. S. Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, St. Martin, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Colombia, Curaçao, Bonaire, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Trinidad & Tobago, Panama, Brazil, Peru, and Argentina. Records from United States north to Texas and Florida are results of misidentification.
Distribution in Brazil: North, Northeast, Central-West, and Southeast regions (PA, MA, TO, MT, GO, RJ) ( Truxal 1953, 1957; Nieser 1970b; Ribeiro et al. 1998; Ribeiro et al. 2010).
Comments: Truxal (1953) listed the species from “ Maranhão: Chapada” without collector data. As he specifically mentioned MA, in this case the collecting locality is not likely to be Chapada dos Guimarães (MT) as mentioned for some of Drake & Harris species, but probably Chapada das Mesas (MA). If eventually discovered that the collector of Truxal’s specimens is H. H. Smith (or that Truxal randomly associated Chapada with MA), then the correct “Chapada” is the one in MT, not in MA. Nieser (1970b) associated Belterra with AM, but the municipality is actually located in PA.
