Geographical distribution: Venezuela, Suriname, Brazil, and Peru.
Distribution in Brazil: Southeast Region (MG, ES, RJ) ( Truxal 1953; Nieser & Melo 1997; Ribeiro et al. 2010).
Comments: Nieser (1968) mentioned the occurrence of B. nitida in AM in the distributional list of the species, without a detailed locality. Because no other records from this state were found and Nieser (1968) did not examine specimens from the Brazilian Amazon, the record is not considered here.
