Diagnosis. Only males are known. Body black, without metallic reflections; clypeal margin not incised (cf. Figs 1–2); antenna with only F5 large, with sensilla, and F1–F3 not closely compacted or fused (cf. Fig. 7); eyes greatly enlarged (cf. Fig. 2); tibial pecten complete (cf. Fig. 16); forewing as in M. gramineus .
Material examined. PARALECTOTYPE (ɗ): IRELAND: ‘ Macroglenes microcerus Hal. ’ (with a small green square), Waterhouse label (see Graham 1969 for additional comments on this specimen) ( BMNH).
Additional material. U.K.: 1ɗ ‘ microcerus Hal. ?’, ‘ v. near microcerus sec Lecto. (3) under graminea , B. M. ɗ, M. de V. Graham, BMNH 1983-2’, red square, ‘Wytham Wood, Berks., 11. 7. 1951, M. W. Graham’ ( BMNH).
Comments. Very close to M. gramineus , thus possibly only a form of the latter (for more comments see M. gramineus ).
Distribution. Ireland, Serbia, Sweden, U.K. ( Noyes 2003).
Hosts. Unknown.
