Neobarombiella pictipennis ( Jacoby, 1894) comb. n.

( Figs 30–32)

Candezea pictipennis Jacoby, 1894: 531 .

Total length. 4.15–4.75 mm (mean: 4.45 mm) (n=3).

Head. Head yellow, first three antennomeres yellow, other antennomeres brownish-yellow, long and slender ( Fig. 30). Only one of three studied specimens has antenna intact, so only one measure is given, length of second to third antennomere 0.78, length of third to fourth antennomere 0.75 ( Fig. 31). Eyes large and interocular distance short ( Fig. 30), width of eye to interocular distance 0.56–0.59 (mean: 0.58).

Thorax. Pronotum yellow, short and trapezoidal, pronotal width 1.34–1.48 mm (mean: 1.41 mm), pronotal length 0.68–0.74 mm (mean: 0.71 mm), and pronotal length to width 0.50–0.51 (mean: 0.50). Elytron yellow with broad dark brown outer elytral margins and one dark brown medial longitudinal line on each elytron, which curves towards and merges with sutural margin in the apical quarter of elytron; coarsely punctuated. Scutellum brownishyellow. Elytral length 3.30–3.70 mm (mean: 3.50 mm), elytral width 2.10–2.60 mm (mean: 2.35 mm), and maximal width of both elytra to length of elytron 0.64–0.70 (mean: 0.67; Fig. 30). Meso-, metathorax and legs yellow, metatibia twice as long as basi-metatarsus, length of basi-metatarsus to metatibia 0.51 (since only one studied specimen had full set of legs, only a single measure is given).

Abdomen. Entirely yellow.

Male genitalia. Since specimens studied were female, males remain unknown and no male genitalic structures were available for study.

Diagnosis. Neobarombiella pictipennis can be easily distinguished from most other species by its lined elytra. Yellow elytron with longitudinal black lines on are only found in N. bilineata , N. vittigera , N. lineata sp. n. and N. reichartzi sp. n. ( Figs 30, 72, 121, 161, 177). These species differ from N. pictipennis in having shorter or broader antennomeres, whereas N. pictipennis has long, very slender antennomeres ( Figs 31, 74, 123, 163, and 179). N. vittigera has one additional line parallel to the outer margin of each elytron while N. pictipennis has only a single very broad elytral line ( Figs 30, 72). In comparison with N. bilineata and N. reichartzi sp. n. this elytral line is not entirely parallel to the elytral suture but curves towards and then merges with the sutural line in the apical quarter of the elytron ( Figs 121, 177). Since only three specimens of N. pictipennis were available for study, variation in characters and colouring is unknown.

Distribution. The three known specimens were collected in Sierra Leone and Guinea.

Type material examined. Lectotype, female: “ S. Leone / Candezea , pictipennis, Type. Jac. / Jacoby Coll., 1909-28a. / Type / Neobarombiella pictipennis, ( Jacoby, 1894) , Bolz & Wagner det. 2008 (label not shown on figure)/ AfriGa, specimen ID:, 1236, specimen data, documented, 15.II.2005 ” ( BMNH; Fig. 32). Type locality: Sierra Leone (no details available). A lectotype is here designated .— Paralectotype: A second specimen with the same label data.

Other material examined. Guinea. 1 ex., “Guenee / Guinea / 67-56” ( BMNH) .
