Neobarombiella punctata ( Laboissière, 1920) comb. n.
( Figs 77–80)
Barombia punctata Laboissière, 1920: 326
Total length. 2.40–3.30 mm (mean: 2.67 mm) (n=24).
Head. Frons and vertex black, labrum, labial and maxillary palpi black or brownish-black. Antenna short, yellowish-brown ( Fig. 77); length of second to third antennomere 0.70–0.83 (mean: 0.80), and length of third to fourth antennomere 0.75–0.86 (mean: 0.83; Fig. 79). Eyes large and ovate, width of eye to interocular distance 0.47–0.62 (mean: 0.54; Fig. 77).
Thorax. Pronotum brownish-black or black; densely and delicately punctate; pronotal width 0.84–1.10 mm (mean: 0.95 mm), pronotal length 0.44–0.58 mm (mean: 0.48 mm), and pronotal length to width 0.48–0.55 (mean: 0.51). Elytron black or brownish-black, coarse and slightly lineated punctate. Elytral length 1.60–2.40 mm (mean: 2.00 mm), elytral width 1.20–1.80 mm (mean: 1.49 mm), maximal width of both elytra to length of elytron 0.68–0.78 (mean: 0.73; Fig. 77). Meso- and metathorax black or brownish-black, legs brownish-yellow, and length of basi-metatarsus to metatibia 0.47–0.53 (mean: 0.51).
Abdomen. Entirely brown to brownish-black.
Male genitalia. Median lobe long and slender, and almost parallel-sided in ventral view ( Fig. 78); apex with single pair of small ridges flanking small V-shaped incision, in ventral view, with two small and two larger apical projections; elongate in lateral view with lightly sclerotized apex; endophallic brush with two slender spiculae.
Diagnosis. Neobarombiella punctata can best be distinguished from some other syntopical species by its entirely black or brownish-black colouring, and the apex of its median lobe, which has four projections. Its pronotal punctuation is indistinct, whereas the elytron have coarse, irregular punctuation. Neobarombiella nigrocaerulea occurs syntopically with, and may have similar colouring to N. punctata , but is distinguishable by its longer, more slender antennomeres, second to third antennomere 0.50–0.65 (0.70–0.83 in N. punctata ) ( Figs 35, 79). The elytron of N. nigrocaerulea are also not truncated as in N. punctata , and have indistinct punctuation ( Figs 33, 77). N. punctatolineata also occurs syntopically with N. nigrocaerulea , but its elytron has more linear punctuation; the antennomeres are more slender and ratios of the basal antennomeres differ, length of second to third antennomere 0.70–0.83, third to fourth antennomere 0.75–0.86 (0.56–0.71 and 0.80–0.91 in N. punctatolineata ) ( Figs 50, 79); in general it is larger and more distinctly convex in shape, maximal width of both elytra to length of elytron 0.68–0.78(0.59–0.71 in N. punctatolineata ), and total length 2.40–3.30 mm (3.35–4.75 mm in N. punctatolineata :) ( Figs 48, 77).
Distribution. Guineo-Congolian region, known from Nigeria in the west, through the Congo Basin towards Rwanda in the east ( Fig. 80).
Type material examined. Holotype, male: “Congo franc., Riv. Likouocla, aux Herbes, Mars 1900 (Jobit) / Le Moult vend., via Reinbek, Eing. Nr. 1, 1957 / Type / Barombia , punctata, m / Lectotypus, Th.
