Diagnosis. Larvae of P. punctatus may be separated from those of other known Pissodes species by the following combination of characters: head unicolorous to possessing pale area on central 0.25 or more of dorsal surface that is lighter in color than remainder ( Fig. 14 View Figs ); antenna with a conspicuous, elongate sensorium, as long as wide at base or longer, with truncate apex ( Figs. 14, 16 View Figs ); occipital foramen without ventral apodemes, curvature of foramen continuous ( Fig. 17 View Figs ); pigmentation of pronotum pale, most specimens with pigmentation present on mediodorsal ¼ to ½ of sclerite, rarely present only as a faintly pigmented stripe near anteromedial margin ( Fig. 11 View Figs ); prodorsum of abdominal segments with posterior margin medially emarginated, prodorsum lens-shaped, bi-convex ( Fig. 13 View Figs ).

Description. Similar to P. yunnanensis except as follows: Color light brown, most specimens with central 0.25–0.33 of dorsal surface of head capsule with a pale area on the posterior portion of the frons and either side of epicranial suture, rarely unicolorous or with faint stripes around des1 ( Fig. 14 View Figs ). Side of head capsule with anterior end of pale stripe directed around les1 and toward les2 ( Fig. 16 View Figs ). Head capsule oval, width/length in anterior view 1.00–1.04 ( Figs. 14, 17 View Figs ); posterior margin in lateral view with middle quarter slightly convex to flat ( Fig. 16 View Figs ). Endocarina covering 0.7–0.8 of distance between epicranial suture and epistoma ( Fig. 14 View Figs ). Posterolateral margin of occipital foramen with elongate triangular, rounded postoccipital condyle; occipital foramen somewhat quadrate, with dorsal half less concave than ventral half to nearly straight, widest point near ventral margin; ventral apodemes lacking, foramen curvature in ventral half continuous ( Fig. 17 View Figs ). Setae des1 and des2 at head capsule mid-length, des3–des5 on lateral third of margin of frontal suture; des3 and des 5 in near proximity and relative distant from des4 ( Fig. 14 View Figs ). Seta les1 about 0.6 as long as les2; setae separated by about the length of les2; les2 close to anterior margin of head ( Figs. 14, 17 View Figs ). Labrum width/length about 1.5 ( Fig. 18 View Figs ); apex with als1–als3 present; ams longer than als1–3, some specimens with a supernumerary minute ams present ( Fig. 19 View Figs ). Postmentum membranous, with an irregularly elongate-oval pigmented area on each side of premental sclerite; pigmented areas slightly depressed, and slightly sculptured in some specimens ( Fig. 20 View Figs ). Pigmentation of pronotum pale, most specimens with pigmentation present on mediodorsal ¼ to ½ of sclerite, rarely present only as a faintly pigmented stripe near anteromedial margin ( Fig. 11 View Figs ). Pleurum fused to lateral margin of pedal area, represented by setose area; area large, broadly to irregularly oval, smooth, bearing long setae, devoid of microtrichia. Pedal area ovoid, unpigmented to slightly pigmented, slightly convex and with a distinct margin in most specimens, lacking microtrichia, larger than pleural sclerite. Meso- and metathorax with pedal area slightly convex and with distinct margin in most specimens. Pedal area with 6 setae, posterior about 0.66 as long as longest pleural seta, remainder shorter; pedal area plus pleurum broadly oval, narrower near midline than laterally, sclerite irregular oval, unpigmented, detectable only by absence of microtrichia. Abdominal segments I-VII with prodorsum lens-shaped and apically acute, with posterior margin slightly concave, groove separating it from anterior segment slightly obscured laterally ( Fig. 13 View Figs ); prodorsum as long as both sections of postdorsum on midline, with posterior margin slightly concave, groove separating it from anterior segment slightly obscured laterally; prodorsum slightly shorter than both sections of postdorsum on midline ( Fig. 13 View Figs ); spiracular area oval, with anteroventral depression not to lightly pigmented, merged with deep groove between postdorsum and epipleurum. Abdominal segment IX with dorsum separated from pleurum by a distinct groove ( Figs. 21, 22 View Figs ). Abdonimal segment X with dorsal lobe lightly larger than lateral lobes.
