Brevipenna Shi & Bian View in CoL gen. nov.

Generic diagnosis. Size small for the subfamily. Head with fastigium verticis narrow, depressed, protruding forwards, furrowed in the midline. Eyes prominent, ocelli distinct. Disc of pronotum smooth, humeral sinus absent. Prosternum, mesosternum and metasternum with 1 pair of processes separately. Fore and middle coxae with 1 small spine; fore one slightly longer than the middle one. Fore and middle femora without ventral spine; outer sides of hind femora with slightly oblique stripes, ventral surface with some small spines, apices of genicular lobes rounded. Dorsal surface of fore and middle tibiae with some small spines and a pair of apical spines, ventral surface with 4 spines and an apical spine on each side; fore tibial tympana opened on both sides, oval. Dorsal surface of hind tibiae with 2 rows of spines and 1 pair of obvious longer subapical spines; ventral surface with some minute spines, 1 pair of shorter subapical spines and 2 pairs of apical spines. Tegmina short, overlapped, reaching posterior margin of third abdominal tergite. Male. Posterior margin of ninth abdominal tergite with 1 pair of digitate lobes; tenth abdominal tergite with 1 pair of short sclerotized hooks on both sides. Paraproct specialized with 2 long sclerotized processes which directing upwards. Cerci long, cylindrical, apices obtuse. Subgenital plate longer than broad, with developed styli. Female. Cerci conical. Basal half of subgenital plate nearly triangular, apical half spine-shaped. Ovipositor upcurved, dorsal valvulae obviously longer than ventral ones.

Remarks. The new genus includes a single species. Brevipenna is very similar to Pteranabropsis and Apteranabropsis in: ninth abdominal tergite with 1 pair of small lobes on posterior margin, tenth abdominal tergite with 1 pair of small hooks, which continues the lobes of ninth abdominal tergite. But the new genus can be distinguished by: size small; wings short and overlapped, only reaching posterior margin of third abdominal tergite. The new genus differs from Paterdecolyus Griffini, 1913 in fore tibial tympana opened on both sides, while the latter only has inner tympanum.

Etymology. Name derived from Latin words “ brev ” and “ penn ” meaning the short and overlapped wings.
