Re-description: Body length: 8.4–10.9 mm.
Coloration and pruinescence: Head mainly black. Thickened portion of third aristomere brownishyellow. Palpus mainly yellow. Thorax mainly black; posterior 1/3–4/5 of scutellum reddish-yellow; scutum covered with grey pruinescence, presutural area with four dark vittae. Abdomen black, more or less reddish laterally on tergites 3 and 4; tergite 3 with a transverse band of whitish-grey pruinescence on anterior 1/3–3/4, tergite 4 pruinose on anterior 2/3–1/1, tergite 5 on anterior 1/2–1/1 (the remaining posterior surface is covered with brown-bronze pruinescence) ( Fig. 13B–D View Figure 13 ).
Head ( Fig. 13A View Figure 13 ): Compound eye usually covered with scattered ommatrichia, about as long as combined diameter of one to four facets (visible under> 60 ¥ magnification on black background); more rarely compound eye bare. Second aristomere about 4.0–7.5 times as long as wide. Thickened part of third aristomere about 2.0–2.5 times as long as second aristomere. Postpedicel about seven to nine times as long as pedicel. Vertex at its narrowest point 0.9–1.1 times as wide as compound eye in dorsal view. Gena in profile about 0.20–0.25 times as high as compound eye. Lateral vertical seta not differentiated from postocular setae. Postocular setae fine, relatively long, slightly bent anteriorly. Prementum about 1.0–1.5 times as long as wide.
Abdomen ( Fig. 13B–D View Figure 13 ): Syntergite 1 + 2 with short and robust median marginal setae. Tergite 3 with one pair of median marginal setae about 0.8–0.9 times as long as corresponding tergite. Tergite 4 with a row of nine to 12 marginal setae. Tergite 5 with a row of marginal and discal setae.
Male terminalia ( Fig. 13E–G View Figure 13 ): Epandrium relatively long and convex. Hypandrial arms long, not or slightly bent anteriorly. Basal 1/2 of cerci prominent in lateral view, distal 1/2 massive and strongly bent posteriorly ( Fig. 13E View Figure 13 ). Posterior surface of distal 1/2 of cerci flat ( Fig. 13F, G View Figure 13 ). Medial preapical tooth of cerci not developed. Distal 1/2 of surstylus, in lateral view, narrow and evenly curved posteriorly, slightly pointed apically ( Fig. 13E View Figure 13 ); posterior surface of surstylus grooved (concave) ( Fig. 13E–G View Figure 13 ). Basal 1/2 of surstylus wide.
Hosts: Unknown.
Distribution: Australasian: Papua New Guinea. Oriental: China (Fujian, Yunnan), Indonesia (Sumatra), Thailand. Palaearctic: Japan (Honshu) (new record).
Notes: All records from China mentioned by Chao et al. (1998) and O’Hara et al. (2009) as D. klapperichi Mesnil (Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi, Gansu, Jilin, Ningxia, Sichuan, Shanxi, Shaanxi) need confirmation. The male terminalia figured by Chao et al. (1998: 1890, 626L1, 3626Mp) do not in our opinion belong to either D. orientale or to any described species except possibly D. cantrelli sp. nov.
