Diagnosis

This species is clearly distinguished from its congener, L. sericea (Butler) , by the external and genital features ( Table 2 View Table 2 ).

Description

Habitus. ( Figure 2b View Figure 2 ) Head: Vertex white, intermixed with pale brown scales laterally; frons pale yellowish brown, intermixed with brownish-grey scales near vertex. Labial palpus brownish grey laterally, brownish white mesally; 1st segment 1/4 as long as 2nd; 3rd segment as long as 1st. Antenna 1/2 as long as forewing; scape brownish grey; flagellum lustrous, pale-brownish grey. Thorax: Patagium brownish white; tegula and mesonotum white, intermixed with brownish white on anterior half. Foreleg with coxa white; femur brownish grey dorsally, white ventrally; tibia brownish grey; tarsomeres pale brownish grey. Mid- and hindleg with coxa, femur and tibia lustrous, white; tarsomeres pale brownish grey. Forewing length 7.4–10 mm, pale brownish grey, with narrowly rounded apex; costa with pale yellowish-grey postmedian spot; discal spot small, orbicular, with obscure borders and darkened surrounding areas; postmedian line pale yellowish grey, tinged with brownish grey on overpassing veins, curved at anterior 1/3, with obscure borders; cilia brownish grey. Hindwing brownish grey, paler to base; postmedian line pale yellowish grey, narrow, with obscure borders; cilia brownish grey, intermixed with white scales on tornus. Abdomen: Terga brownish grey; sterna brownish white. Male genitalia ( Figure 2e–g View Figure 2 ): Uncus subtriangular, with lateral lobes, with long hairs that are denser on apex. Tegumen wide-trapezoidal; gnathal arms narrow, digitate, spinulate on distal half; subscaphium present. Valva gradually narrowed distad, with digitate apex, setose on ventral and apical margins; sacculus very broad, with ventral lobe folded in pouch, setose; harpe lobate in ear-shape, with a bulge and two teeth on distal margin. Juxta crescentiform. Vinculum subrectangular; saccus narrow, triangular, with narrowly rounded apex. Phallus ( Figure 2f View Figure 2 ) gradually narrowed distad, nearly straight; cornuti ( Figure 2g View Figure 2 ) as a bundle of 4–5 curved spines.

Distribution

Korea (south), Taiwan.

Etymology

The species epithet is derived from two Latin words, ̍ curvus ̾ and ̍ lineatus ̾, that mean ̍bend̾ and ̍of a line̾, respectively.

Remarks

No females of this species were found in the type series designated from this study. The sex ratio of Loxocorys appears extremely biased to males, possibly because the females seldom come to light.
