Carpophilus ferrugineus Murray

Carpophilus ferrugineus Murray 1864: 349

A single specimen was studied with a label reading “SYN-TYPE”, along with other identifiers allowing this specimen to be matched to the original series used by Murray in 1864. No number of specimens was given by Murray; however, the body measurements were given as a range so it can be assumed more than one specimen was measured. The specimen bears a label simply “TYPE” but clearly there was some confusion or possibly additional specimens that led someone to add the syntype label; this confusion warrants the formal designation. All primary types of Carpophilinae for Murray’s 1864 revision of the family Nitidulidae View in CoL are deposited in the Natural History Museum, London, UK. Therefore, this specimen can be reliably considered as a primary type. Labels for the designated specimen are as follows: “SYN-/TYPE” “51834” “ex MUS/Murray” “TYPE” “ Mexico ” “ ferrugineus Murr /Brit. Mus. Cat/ Mexico ”. A red label is added with the following text: “ LECTOTYPE / Carpophilus ferrugineus Murray /Desig. By/Powell and Martin 2019”.
