Amended diagnosis

Forearm 39.2–41.5 mm, CCL 14.07–14.10 mm ( Table 1). Fur is long and denseonboththeupperpartsandunderparts. Dorsalhairsaredarkbrown overall, withblackishbrownbasesandpalerchocolatebrowntips. Ventrally, hairbasesarethesameblackishbrownbutwithpalertips (HiLL 1962). Ears arenarrow, tapering, withroundedtips. Traguslong, narrow, anditsinner marginstraight (DOBSON 1874).

Braincasedistinctlydomed, frontaldepressionwell- expressed. Thesagit- talandlambdoidcrestsareweaklydeveloped. Theanteorbitalbridgeiswide. Basaldimensionsoftheanteriorupperpremolar (P2) aboutone-thirdthatof P4. Middleupperpremolar (P3) relativelywelldevelopedandalmostinthe toothrow, separatingthefirst (P2) andthirdupperpremolar (P4). Lowermid- dlepremolar (p3) developedandplacedinthetoothrow.

Distribution and ecological notes

Accordingtopublishedrecords, M. montivagus hasthewidestdistribu- tionofitsgroup. TheholotypewascollectedinYunnan, southChina (DOB- SON 1871). The species also occurs in northern Myanmar (BM(NH)) and Laos (FRANciS et al. 1999) where it was found in a hill forest at 1000 m and in an openforestat 500 melevationontheNakaiPlateau. KuzNeTSOv etal. (2001) recordeditfromVuQuang, VietnamandMANDAL etal. (2000) collectedfour specimensat 1500 minMizoram, north-eastIndia.
