Chironomus prasinellus (Kieffer, 1912) View in CoL : Tokunaga, 1940: 292, misidentification.
Chironomus daitocedeus Sasa et Suzuki, 2001b: 64 View in CoL . syn. n.
Specimen examined: Japan: Ryukus, Okinawa Pref., Minamiadaito Is., The Creek , holotype ♂ of Chironomus daitocedeus View in CoL , 28. iii. 2001, H. Suzuki, [specimen No. 412:038 (NSMT-I-Dip 5427)] .
In the Catalogue of the Insect of Japan, Yamamoto & Yamamoto (2014) give a comment that Chironomus daitocedeus probably is a junior synonym of C. javanus . C. daitocedeus is treated as a junior synonym of C. javanus without showing a sufficient reason by Hazra et al. (2016). In this paper, C. daitocedeus is concluded as a junior synonym of C. javanus based on the following characters: wing membrane clear colorless transparent with a dark spot on RM cross vein; tarsomere 4 distinctly longer than tarsomere 3 in fore leg; in fore leg, apical portion of tarsomere 1, both ends of tarsomeres 2–4, tarsomere 5 brown; tarsomeres 1–3, tarsomeres 4 and 5 of mid and hind legs brown; abdomen unicolour; inferior volsella comparatively short and wide; gonocoxite fused with SIX on its lateral portion.
