Lotis punctata Lewis, 1873: 36 (nomen nudum, listed as new species in the Crotch Collection). Sticholotis punctata Crotch, 1874: 201 ; Mader, 1955: 820 –821; Sasaji, 1971: 73; Ren et al., 2009: 34. Sticholotis rufosignata Weise, 1885: 239 .
Diagnosis. This species can be distinguished from other Sticholotis species by black pronotum and quadrate central and apical spots of elytra ( Figs 59–61 View FIGURES 56 – 64. 56 – 58 ).
Description. TL: 2.10–2.49 mm, TW: 1.70–2.11 mm, TH: 1.15–1.25 mm, TL/TW: 1.16–1.19; PL/PW: 0.40– 0.42; EL/EW: 0.89–0.94; HW/TW: 0.41; PW/TW: 0.66.
Head reddish brown, with mouthparts black. Pronotum black, anterior and lateral margins usually narrowly and obscurely reddish. Scutellum black. Elytra yellow to reddish brown, with 6 large black rounded spots disposed as follows: a pair resting on the humeral calli (touching basal margin); a pair resting on disc slightly posteriad of half length of elytron; one (the largest) resting at 2/5 length of elytral suture; one just before sutural apex. Sometimes spots expanded and linked with each other ( Figs 59–61 View FIGURES 56 – 64. 56 – 58 ). Underside dark brown, with elytral epipleuron and legs yellow.
Body almost circular in outline, hemispherical, shiny and glabrous. Head frontal punctures fine, 2.0–3.0 diameters apart, with scattered short setae, interocular distance of eyes 0.63x head width ( Fig. 61 View FIGURES 56 – 64. 56 – 58 ).
Pronotal punctures very fine, 2.0–3.0 diameters apart. Elytral punctures medium and conspicuous, distinctly larger than those on pronotum, 1.5–2.0 diameters apart. Elytral margins moderately wide, distinctly visible from above.
Prosternal surface shagreened, punctures inconspicuous, with long sparse setae. Mesoventral surface shiny with several large punctures. Metaventrite shiny, covered by coarse and dense punctures distributed at center. Elytral epipleuron broad and complete to apex, feebly foveate to accommodate femoral tips of hind legs. Wings well-developed.
Male genitalia: Penis slender, strongly curved at base ( Fig. 198 View FIGURES 197 – 205. 197 – 200 ); tegmen with penis guide slightly longer than paramere length, in lateral view straight, widest at base, narrowing to apex ( Fig. 199 View FIGURES 197 – 205. 197 – 200 ); parameres slender, with sparse setae apically.
Female genitalia: Ovipositor elongate and narrowly triangular, styli inconspicuous, each with sparse long terminal setae ( Fig. 200 View FIGURES 197 – 205. 197 – 200 ).
