This large New World genus presently contains 34 species distributed from Canada to Argentina. Several of the included species have been studied for their potential as biological control agents (e.g., De Clercq 2000). Thomas (1992) reviewed the genus and provided a key to the included species; he also moved several species to other genera. The North American species have also been reviewed in an unpublished dissertation ( Phillips 1983).
