Corinna severa Thorell, 1877: 481 (♁).
Corinnomma severum Karsch, 1880: 375 View in CoL (for complete list of references, see World Spider Catalog 2023).
Type material. Holotype ♁ from INDONESIA: Southeast Sulawesi: Kendari (03°59′S, 122°30′E; 3 m a.s.l.), 1874, leg. O. Beccari, repository MSNG (register number unknown), examined based on photographs. GoogleMaps
Diagnosis. Males of C. severum are closely related to the males of C. thorelli in the general morphology of the pedipalp, but can be distinguished by a distally narrow embolus (vs. as wide as long in C. thorelli ) (cf. Figs 4C–E View FIGURE 4 , 5D View FIGURE 5 with Deeleman-Reinhold 1993: fig. 27). Females closely resemble to those of C. simplex in the general morphology of the genitalia, but can be separated by inverted J-shaped anterior spermathecae II (vs. S-shaped in C. simplex ) (cf. Zhang et al. 2022: fig. 4E with Zhang et al. 2022: fig. 6E).
Supplementary description. Male (holotype, Fig. 4A–B View FIGURE 4 ) in alcohol. A ER moderately recurved, PER slightly procurved ( Fig. 4B View FIGURE 4 ). Opisthosoma tubular ( Fig. 4A View FIGURE 4 ). Pedipalp ( Figs 4C–E View FIGURE 4 , 5D View FIGURE 5 ): cymbium retrobasally with a paracymbial spine ( Fig. 4E View FIGURE 4 ). Tegulum pear-shaped, with an oblique, weak apical depression, with less coiled sperm duct with longitudinally oriented loop ( Fig. 4C–E View FIGURE 4 ). Embolus long, slightly wavy, with broad basal and narrow distal halves, with blunt tip directed at 1-o’clock in ventral view ( Figs 4C–E View FIGURE 4 , 5D View FIGURE 5 ).
Remarks. Even though Deeleman-Reinhold (1993, 2001) examined the holotype male of C. severum , it is unclear whether the illustrations provided are of the holotype or not. Sankaran (2021) misidentified a Corinnomma species from India and described it as C. severum , which is in fact the male of the recently described Chinese species, C. simplex ( Fig. 5E View FIGURE 5 ).
Distribution. India to China, Indonesia (Sumatra, Sulawesi), Philippines ( World Spider Catalog 2023).
