Bengalia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830: 425 View in CoL . Type species: Bengalia testacea Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 View in CoL , by designation of Duponchel (1842: 542) (= Musca torosa Wiedemann, 1819 ).

Rognes (2015) established that an old, hitherto misunderstood name, Plinthomyia Rondani, 1875 , is also a synonym of Bengalia View in CoL . The genus Bengalia View in CoL has been characterized by several authors, including Bezzi (1911, 1913), Surcouf (1920), Malloch (1927), Senior-White et al. (1940), Zumpt (1956), Lehrer (2005, as Bengaliidae ) and Rognes (2011b), and its defining character states need not be repeated here. Rognes (1997) discussed the systematic position of Auchmeromyiinae View in CoL and Bengaliinae View in CoL (then considered separate) in the broader context of nonmonophyly of the Calliphoridae View in CoL , whereas Rognes (2011b) presented a phylogenetic analysis of the relationship of the genera of the Bengaliinae View in CoL (including Bengalia View in CoL ) within a revised concept of this subfamily.
