Distribution. Colombia, Venezuela, Guianas, Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil. Records for the Brazil are from the states of Acre, Amazonas, Amapá, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Pará, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio de Janeiro, Rondônia, Roraima, Santa Catarina, and São Paulo ( Peracchi et al. 2006).

Habitat. Inhabits almost exclusively moist environments as such rainforests, cloud forests, and semideciduous forests ( Haynes & Lee 2004). This species was collected in all sampled localities (14 o 30’ 21.09” S, 46 o 45’ 29.37” W in Alvorada do Norte , GO; 13°46’ 15.1” S, 46° 37’ 29.2” W in São Domingos, GO; and 12° 54’ 50.8” S, 47° 34’ 0.7” W in Paranã, TO), always near to water sources GoogleMaps .

Comments. Similarities between A. obscurus and A. jamaicensis have raised taxonomic confusion due to the variation in morphology of the latter ( Haynes & Lee 2004). Both species are very similar and have almost the same size, but A. jamaicensis is slightly larger and exhibits a more prominent rostrum.
