Habitat records. Woodlands: Juglans regia and Crataegus on 1200–1550 m, Juglans regia on 1400 m, Betula on 1850 m, Salix on 2300 m; Betula plantation on 2400 m; meadows and Juniperus wood on 2400–3000 m; Juniperus stand on 2400–2850 m; scrub on 1800–1900 m; under stones by river bank on 2400 m; in snow melt on 3000 m; unknown habitats on 1250–1550 and 2900 m ( Eason 1997); from above than 3000 m ( Zalesskaja 1978), unknown habitat on ca. 3330 m ( Trotzina 1894).

Remarks. Widely distributed in Asia, also known from Afghanistan ( Eason 1986b), Mongolia ( Loksa 1965; Zalesskaja 1978; Poloczek et al. 2016; Dyachkov 2017c), N China ( Ma et al. 2014), W and E Siberia ( Russia, Republic of Altai and Republic of Buryatia) ( Zalesskaja 1978; Nefediev & Farzalieva 2020). Specimens from Central China published as Paobius jangtseanus by Verhoeff (1942) (now Hessebius jangtseanus ( Verhoeff, 1942)) ( Pei et al. 2010) and specimens from Mongolia ( Eason 1986a; Pei et al. 2010; Ma et al. 2014) published as P. jangtseanus by Loksa (1965) (now synonym of Lithobius giganteus ) may belong to different species.
