Trichiscus copelandi Azevedo , sp. nov.

Description. MALE. Length 4. mm. Head and mesosoma black, metasoma dark castaneous. Wings subhyaline. Clypeus with median lobe subtrapezoidal, lateral margin convex, apical margin slightly thick in frontal view, medially with boomerang-shaped polished area; median carina indistinguishable from surface, instead with sharp line. Frons strongly coriaceous, punctures little distinguishable from texture surface. Vertex slightly convex. Notaulus present on anterior half of mesoscutum. Scutellar disc strongly sharpened posteriorly, overlapping propodeal disc anteriorly, lateral border concave ( Fig. 5 ). Propodeal disc with partially polished median depression, surrounded by sharp and high paramedian carina, median carina conspicuous and incomplete. Hypopygium ( Fig. 15 ) with posterior margin conspicuously concave. Genitalia ( Figs 42–45 ). Basal parameral expansion conical. Basivolsella with spine-shaped median expansion, ventrad. Aedeagal ventral ramus very short, laminar, surface vertical, subrectangular in lateral view. Aedeagal dorsal body with three pairs of apical lobes, outer pair laminar, surface vertical, apex narrow and slightly ventrad in lateral view; ventral pair laminar, surface vertical and concave, apex with spine-shaped corners in lateral view, ventral one twisted and dorsal one straight; inner pair membranous, hairy.

Material examined. Holotype ♂, KENYA, Eastern Prov., Kirimiri Hill Forest, Top of hill, 0°25.44’S 37°32.72’E, 1750m, Malaise trap, indigenous forest, 26 APR-10 MAY 2005, R. Copeland ( NMKE).

Etymology. This species is named after the curator of NMKE Robert Copeland, for his contribution to African wasp studies.
