Flowering time: — April–May.

Habitat: — Stony places, steppe, 1950–2581 m.

Distribution: — Irano-Turanian element. Turkey (East Anatolia), Iran, Transcaucasia, Central Asia.

Note: — The sect. Stipitatae was not reported by Rix (1984). Gagea vanensis and G. chomutovae were both recently recorded for Turkish flora by the authors ( Tekşen & Karaman Erkul 2015). Gagea chomutovae is distinct from other species in Turkey by having basal leaf mostly 1, basal leaves roundish and hollow in cross section. Gagea chomutovae differs from G. vanensis by sclerified roots present and cross section of the basal leaf hollow, with more than ten vascular bundles (in G. vanensis , the absence of sclerified roots and the cross section of the basal leaf solid with five vascular bundles; Tekşen & Karaman Erkul 2015).
