Description

Antennae in male bipectinate, tapered towards end, longest ramus longer than diameter of flagellum, simple filiform in female. Frons with upper half brown and extended downwards at middle, basal half white. Labial palpus with third segment brown dorsally. Vertex white. Thorax and abdomen with dorsal side green, but paler than wing colour. Hind tibia dilated and with hair-pencil, with short terminal extension.

Wing pattern. Length of forewing „ 23–25 mm; ♀ 22–30 mm. Wings green with blue tinge. Wing shape similar to G. dieckmanni , slightly more deeply falcate below forewing apex. Transverse lines also similar to G. dieckmanni , the main differences being: antemedial and postmedial lines much broader; patches formed by antemedial and postmedial line on costa of forewing brown, rather than white as in G. dieckmanni ; terminal line yellow-brown, the latter entirely absent in G. dieckmanni . Underside much paler.

Male genitalia ( Figures 2G View Figure 2 , 3G View Figure 3 ). Similar to G. dieckmanni , gnathos also with median process spinulose, but differering as follows: uncus more developed, hump-like; valva much slenderer; sacculus less than one-half valva in length.

Segment 8 ( Figure 5G View Figure 5 ) with tergite more tapered than in G. dieckmanni ; sternite with sclerotized middle process bifurcate and forming two sharp processes.

Female genitalia ( Figure 4G View Figure 4 ). Sclerotized and wrinkled area present around ostium area. Ductus bursae very short, sclerotized, with V-shaped antrum. Corpus bursae membranous, very large, gradually broadening anteriorly. Signum a crescent-shaped sclerite, with two sharp teeth.

Biology

Larvae with pointed forked processes on A1–A5 and A8, hibernating in young stages and mature in spring ( Sugi 1987).

Host. Fagaceae : Castanea crenata ; Quercus acutissima ; Quercus dentata (from Scoble 1999).
