Ypsiloncyphon garoensis sp. n.
( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 H, 10)
Type material. Holotype ( NMW): male, “NE-INDIA: Meghalaya W Garo Hills Nokrek NP; ca. 1100m ”, “ 25º29.6’N 90º19.5’E 9.- 17.5.1996 leg. Jendek & Sausa”, genit. s. no. HY 916. Paratype ( NMW): 1 male, “NE- INDIA: Meghalaya W Garo Hills Balphakram NP”, “ 25º11’N 90º51’E 22.- 27.5.1996 leg. Jendek & Sausa”, genit. s. no. HY 911.
Description. Male. Body ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 H) oval, slightly convex dorsally, shiny, closely covered with silver setae. Coloration of head, scutellar shield, elytra, meso- and metaventrites, abdomen and hind femur blackish-brown; pronotum reddish-brown (holotype) to brown (paratype); antennae, mouthparts, legs (except for hind femur) yellowish-brown.
Head moderate in size, almost flat dorsally, front margin of clypeus concave. Eyes large, prominent; the distance between eyes about 1.5 times as long as the maximum diameter of an eye. Pronotum finely punctate, depressed in lateral parts; anterior margin straight; lateral and posterior margins gently arcuate; antero- and postero-lateral corners obtuse; PW/PL 2.29–2.43 (2.36). Scutellar shield relatively small, finely punctate, equilaterally triangular. Elytra oblong-oval, widest at the middle, densely punctate; humeral parts slightly projecting dorsally; apices right-angled; EL/EW 1.29–1.45 (1.37); EL/PL 4.43–4.60 (4.51); EW/PW 1.30–1.50 (1.40); TL/EW 1.58–1.77 (1.68).
Caudal margin of sternite VII ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 A) arcuate. Tergite VIII ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 B) moderately sclerotized, with two large lateral lobes between which the caudal margin is deeply excised, with a small median projection, with a pair of long and slender apodemes; tergite IX ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 C) small, lightly sclerotized, trapezoidal, with a pair of long apodemes; sternite VIII ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 D) moderately sclerotized, elongate-triangular. Tegmen ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 E) moderately sclerotized, Y-shaped, bifid in apical 1/3 (parameres), pointed at apices. Penis ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 F) lightly sclerotized, about 1.2 times as long as tegmen; sides of pala subparallel, pala gently tapering anteriorly; parameroids concave in apical margin, sparsely punctate; trigonium indistinct.
Female. Unknown.
Measurements. Male (n = 2): TL 1.68 & 1.90 mm; PW 0.73 & 0.80 mm; PL 0.30 & 0.35 mm; EW 0.95 & 1.20 mm; EL 1.38 & 1.55 mm.
Distribution. India.
Remarks. This species is related to Ypsiloncyphon kedahensis sp. n. and Y. chiangmaiensis sp. n. judging from the tergite VIII having large lateral lobes and the penis with trigonium indistinct, and differs from them by the shapes of tergite VIII and penis.
Etymology. The species is named after the type locality.
