Ypsiloncyphon nepalensis sp. n.
( Figs. 13 View FIGURE 13 L, 25)
Type material. Holotype ( BLKU): male, “(E. NEPAL) Basantapur (2300m) 27º07’N, 87º24’E May 5, 1972 Malaise Trap (2) Kyushu Univ. Col.”, s. no. HY 792.
Description. Male. Body ( Fig. 13 View FIGURE 13 L) oblong, gently convex dorsally, lightly shining, closely covered with yellowish-white setae throughout. Coloration of body yellowish-brown, but head and ventral surface of thoraces darker.
Head moderate in size, slightly convex dorsally, finely punctate; clypeus with straight front margin. Eyes relatively small, prominent; the distance between eyes about 3.5 times as long as the maximum diameter of an eye. Antennae stout. Pronotum finely punctate; front margin almost straight; antero- and postero-lateral corners obtuse, slightly projecting anteriorly in antero-lateral corners; lateral margins arcuate; posterior margin bisinuous; PW/PL 2.14. Scutellar shield small, equilaterally triangular, punctate as in pronotum. Elytra oblong, widest at the middle, densely punctate; apices rectangular; humeral parts slightly projecting; EL/EW 1.53; EL/PL 5.46; EW/PW 1.67; TL/EW 1.81.
Caudal margin of sternite VII ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 A) arcuate. Tergite VIII ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 B) moderately sclerotized, trapezoidal, bearing short setae near postero-lateral corners, with a pair of short apodemes protruding from near antero-lateral corners; tergites VIII–IX and tegmen broken. Penis ( Fig. 25 View FIGURE 25 C) short, well sclerotized, widest at base; parameroids rod-like in apical 1/3, sparsely punctate; pala oblong; trigonium short, projecting about proximal 5/9 to 7/9, lightly sclerotized, simply rod-like.
Female. Unknown.
Measurements. Male (n = 1): TL 1.81 mm; PW 0.60 mm; PL 0.28 mm; EW 1.00 mm; EL 1.53 mm.
Distribution. Nepal.
Remarks. This species is closely related to Ypsiloncyphon formosu s (Klausnitzer) known from India and Y. jiangxiensi s (Yoshitomi) known from China in the shape of the prolonged parameroids of the penis. However, this species is distinguished from the other two species in the simple finger-shaped trigonium of the penis (apically serrate in these two species).
Etymology. The species is named after the type locality.
