Ypsiloncyphon cervus sp. n.
( Figs. 26 View FIGURE 26 K, 36)
Type material. Holotype ( ITBC): male, “Gn. Alab., Tambunan, Sabah, BORNEO 18. VIII. 2007 H. Takizawa leg.”. Paratypes: 1 male ( ITBC), same data as for the holotype, but “ 15–16. I. 2008 ”; 1 male ( EUMJ), same data as for the holotype, but “ 16. XI. 2008 ”.
Description. Male. Body ( Fig. 26 View FIGURE 26 K) oblong, convex dorsally, strongly shiny, closely covered with silver setae. Coloration of body blackish brown, but mouthparts, antennae, lateral parts of pronotum and legs paler.
Head relatively large, convex dorsally, finely punctate; clypeus long, with shallowly concave front margin. Eyes moderate in size, prominent; the distance between eyes about 2.0 times as long as the maximum diameter of an eye. Antennae moderate in length, reaching about proximal 1/5 of elytra. Pronotum densely punctate; anterolateral corners right angled; postero-lateral corners obtuse; anterior and lateral margins straight; posterior margin gently arcuate; PW/PL 2.11–2.60 (2.35). Scutellar shield punctate as on head, equilaterally triangular. Elytra oblong, subparallel-sided near base to apical 1/3, punctate as on pronotum; humeral parts gently projecting dorsolaterally; apices right-angled; EL/EW 1.46–1.50 (1.48); EL/PL 4.34–5.27 (4.80); EW/PW 1.38; TL/EW 1.74–1.85 (1.79). Legs moderate in length, slender.
Caudal margin of sternite VII ( Fig. 36 View FIGURE 36 A) slightly pointed. Tergite VIII ( Fig. 36 View FIGURE 36 B) moderately sclerotized, transverse, arcuate in posterior margin, bearing short spines in apical part of posterior margin; apodemes relatively short, connected with each other at the base of the plate. Tergite IX ( Fig. 36 View FIGURE 36 C) lightly sclerotized, bearing short spines along posterior margin, with a pair of long and slender apodemes. Sternite IX ( Fig. 36 View FIGURE 36 D) lightly sclerotized, small, U-shaped. Tegmen ( Fig. 36 View FIGURE 36 E) small, moderately sclerotized, Y-shaped. Penis ( Fig. 36 View FIGURE 36 F) long, asymmetrical, about 2.4 times as long as tegmen; pala oblong, arcuate in basal margin; parameroids bilobed in apical part, slightly expanded apically; trigonium short, projecting from basal 4/11 to 7/11, shallowly concave at apex, bearing short serrations in lateral margin of apical part; endophallus well developed, membranous, bearing long spines in basal and apical parts.
Female. Unknown.
Measurements. Male (n = 2): TL 1.88 & 2.03 mm; PW 0.78 & 0.80 mm; PL 0.30 & 0.38 mm; EL 1.58 & 1.65 mm; EW 1.08 & 1.10 mm.
Distribution. Malaysia (Borneo).
Remarks. This species is peculiar in having the following characteristics of the penis: 1) parameroids bilobed in apical part, slightly expanded in apical parts, and 2) endophallus well developed, bearing long spines in basal and apical parts.
Etymology. The species name, Latin “ cervus ” = deer, refers to the shape of the parameroids.
