Otostigmus lewisi Song et al., 2005
Otostigmus ( O.) lewisi Song, Gai, Song, & Zhu, 2005 : 302, 304, figs 47–53. China.
Remarks. Song et al. (2005) gave the following characters for O. lewisi : antennomeres 18, the basal 2.5–2.7 glabrous dorsally: forcipular coxosternal teeth typically 3 + 3, the inner two on each side more or less fused: tergites with complete paramedian sutures from 5, marginate from 6–8, without keels or spines and sternites with complete paramedian sutures from 4 to 19, the last sternite with sides converging and posterior edge strongly concave, with central longitudinal depression: coxopleural process short, typically with two end spines, two lateral spines and one dorsal spine: ultimate leg prefemur with prominent spines on swollen bases. From these data it would appear that there are some minor differences between Otostigmus lewisi and O beroni , the former having complete sternite paramedian sutures from 4, whereas in the latter species they may be incomplete. However, fig. 50 in Song et al. shows incomplete sutures. The central longitudinal depression in sternite 21 is not shown in their fig. 52. The description of the coxopleural process as short in O. lewisi contrasts with its description as long in O. beroni but a comparison of fig. 52 in Song et al. and fig. 40 in Lewis (2001) shows them to be of very similar shape. There are no significant differences between the two species and O. lewisi is a junior subjective synonym of O. beroni .
