Cephennomicrus iriomotensis View in CoL sp. n.
( Figs. 16 View FIGURES 15 – 20 , 23, 24)
Type material. Holotype: JAPAN: 3, " JAPAN, Okinawa Pref., IRIOMOTE-jima, Komi, FIT, 7–11 IV 2005, T. FUKUZAWA leg." (white, printed) ( NSMT). Paratype: JAPAN: 3, same data as for holotype ( PCPJ).
Diagnosis. Body ca. 0.9 mm in length; pronotal disc with very fine punctures; sides of pronotum nearly straight, barely noticeably constricted; lateral margin of each elytron with 5–6 long and strongly erect lateral setae; aedeagus with very short and narrow central complex, and simple median duct, without loops.
Description. BL 0.89–0.91 (0.90). Body of male ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 15 – 20 ) moderately slender, pigmentation reddishbrown, vestiture slightly lighter than body.
Head large, HL 0.10–0.12 (0.11), HW 0.25; vertex and frons convex, rounded together; frontal glands as small as single ommatidium, each located near internal anterior margin of eye; eyes large, coarsely faceted, moderately convex. Punctation on frons and vertex composed of very fine, barely noticeable punctures distributed evenly over entire surface and larger, more distinct and sparse punctures located on sides of vertex and on frons; setation very short and sparse, nearly recumbent. Antennae short and compact, AnL 0.37–0.40 (0.38); antennomere I about 1.5x as long as broad; II slightly shorter and narrower than I, about 1.4–1.5x as long as broad; III distinctly narrower than II and very short, broader than long; IV–VI equal in length and width, each as narrow as III but about as long as broad; VII only minimally larger than VI, as long as broad; VIII about as large as VII; IX slightly larger than VIII, slightly broader than long; X much larger than IX, distinctly transverse; XI minimally narrower than X but longer, about 1.3x as long as broad.
Pronotum subrectangular in shape, broadest near anterior third, PL 0.27, PW 0.35–0.37 (0.36); anterior margin broadly rounded; sides strongly rounded in anterior third, distinctly microserrate, very weakly constricted just posterior to middle, nearly straight in posterior third, distinctly convergent toward blunt, obtuse hind angles; posterior margin with broad and shallow lateral and short median emarginations; base of pronotum with four small but distinct pits forming two lateral pairs, distance between pairs longer than 1/3 width of pronotum. Punctation of pronotal disc composed of very small, shallow and moderately distinctly marked punctures, in central part of pronotum punctures are separated by spaces as long as 1.5– 2 x puncture diameter. Basic vestiture moderately long, dense, suberect, setae along lateral margins are slightly more erect, additionally pronotum bears two long setae on each lateral margin and two long setae in middle of posterior margin.
FIGURES 21–32. Aedeagus of Cephennomicrus in ventral (21, 23, 25, 27, 29, 31) and lateral (22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32) views. 21, 22, C. taiwanensis (Jałoszyński) . 23, 24, C. iriomotensis Jałoszyński. 25, 26, C. nagoanus Jałoszyński. 27, 28, C. tsurui Jałoszyński. 29, 30, C. delicatissimus Jałoszyński. 31, 32, C. imago Jałoszyński. Abbreviations: bl, basal loop; cc, central complex; md, median duct; ml, median loop. Scale bars: 0.1 mm.
Elytra oval, broadest distinctly anterior to middle, EL 0.52, EW 0.43–0.45 (0.44), EI 1.15–1.21. Each humeral callus is delimited from internal part of elytron by deep basal impression running posteriorly and toward lateral margin of elytron; apices of elytra separately rounded. Punctation distinct but composed of very small punctures similar to those on pronotum; vestiture slightly shorter and sparser than that on pronotum, only slightly suberect; additionally lateral margin of each elytron is provided with 5–6 long, strongly erect setae. Hind wings well developed.
Legs moderately long and slender, pro- and metatibiae straight, mesotibiae slightly recurved.
Metaventrite with extremely small median tubercle.
Aedeagus (Figs. 23, 24); AeL 0.25; internal armature simple, with short and very narrow central complex surrounding simple duct without loops; parameres with slightly broadened apices, reaching apex of median lobe, each paramere bears two very short apical setae.
Female unknown.
Distribution. Japan, Okinawa Pref.: Iriomote-jima Is.
Etymology. Locotypical; the name is derived from the Iriomote-jima Is. of the Sakishima Archipelago, where the type material has been collected.
