Type species Helix semenovi Martens, 1864
Diagnosis. Mucous glands discharging either into twin reservoirs adjacent to the atrium, united to the apical portion of the dart sac via a “bridge”duct, or discharging into the same duct near its center.
Remarks. In Nordsieck’s system of Bradybaenidae(2002) , the genus Ponsadenia is placed in the tribe Bradybaenini (sensu Nordsieck, 2002, = Bradybaeninae ). The genus is not included in the phylogenetic analysis of Bradybaenidae mostly based on genital features ( Wu 2004). Therefore, in the present work the systematic frame of both Schileyko (1978, subgenus subdivision) and Nordsieck (2002, subfamily placement) is adopted provisionally; any change should be expected only after necessary phylogenetic analysis.
The three subgenera of Ponsadenia are distinguishable by shell morphology. In Ponsadenia (s. str.), the shell is almost spherical, peripherically rounded and colored; in P. (Mesasiata), the shell is depressed, peripherically rounded and unicolored; in P. (Tarbagataja), the shell is depressed, sharply carinate and unicolored.
