Flagellum with 20–25 flagellomeres, apex of flagellum with a spine. Pedicel large and slightly petiolate. Maxillary and labial palpi with 6 and 3 articles, respectively. Occipital carina complete dorsally, joining ventrally hypostomal carina far from mandibular basis. Eye glabrous and large. Face largely flattened. Clypeus wide and high. Subocular sulcus present, shallow. Mandibles long, strongly twisted, largely overlapping each other. Epicnemial carina complete, postpectal carina absent. Sternaulus sculptured, shallowly impressed. Mesopleuron otherwise smooth. Notaulus complete. Scutellum with minute transverse depression medio-posteriorly. Propodeum distinctly concave medio-posteriorly, at least laterally coarsely reticulate, without median carina. Forewing with Rs curved, 1/Rs present and short, M+Cu and 2/A spectral, r-m present though sometimes spectral, m-cu postfurcal, parastigma small and pterostigma wide. Hind coxa simple, apex of inner hind tibia with setal comb. Tarsal claws simple. Tergite I tubular, ventral margins fused ventrally, very elongate, 3x to 10x longer than apically wide, dorsopes and lateropes absent. Metasoma smooth, at most with some lateral striations on tergite I. Laterotergites II+III strongly developed, overlapping ventrally. Ovipositor distinctly protruding, about straight. Sheath slender with apex membranous, 0.2 to 0.3x as long as forewing.
Chrysopophthorus spp. are endoparasitoids of adults of Chrysopidae , especially Chrysopa spp. This is a small genus, worldwide distributed, with eight known species.
